Custom Ieuan Designed Headless Bass — 2020 Build

The Headless 5-String Bass was designed by Ieuan Harris and brought to life by JPI Guitars as the first full scratch-built instrument from the workshop. Featuring a neck-through walnut core with poplar burl body wings and a zebrawood fretboard, it balances natural beauty with experimental innovation. JPI’s custom headstock design allows for clean thru-string anchoring, paired with generic pickups and tuners and a homemade figured oak pickup surround. A piezo bridge pickup bar with onboard 3-band EQ and preamp adds tonal versatility, letting the player switch between passive pickups, active acoustic tones, or a blend of both. Though it could benefit from upgraded tuners, this bass remains a milestone — a fully original, great-sounding instrument that marked the true beginning of JPI’s handcrafted lineage.
