Custom Fanned Fret Headless Bass — 2021 to 2025 Build

The 5-String Fanned-Fret Headless Bass is a long-awaited project born from a bandmate’s request and refined over five years of craftsmanship. Built around a semi-hollow body, it features maple and zebrawood wings beautifully sandwiched between figured poplar burl, creating a rich visual depth. The maple and walnut neck supports a zebrawood fretboard with walnut trim and stainless-steel frets for lasting precision and tone. Powered by Lace Aluma-Tone pickups and Nova Guitar Parts tuning systems from Brazil, it delivers clarity, balance, and innovation. The build’s long timeline included a major setback — discovering a broken truss rod during the first setup, which required carefully removing the fretboard and replacing the truss rod before final assembly. With its deep body curvature and perfect ergonomic balance, this bass stands as a testament to persistence, craftsmanship, and the pursuit of perfection — now proudly part of JPI Guitars’ stock collection.
